Martial Arts: Chance to take some Ayre and learn self defence
Sep 2 2010 by Our Correspondent, Pontypridd Observer
LITTLE warriors are invited to take self-defence classes to improve their fitness and confidence.

Krav Maga, which incorporates a range of martial arts techniques, such as kick-boxing and basic jujitsu, has been used globally by the police, military and security personal, and has only recently been offered to the general public.

Chris Ayre, a detective constable for South Wales Police’s child abuse investigation unit, has been running classes for children aged six to 16 since January.

The self-defence expert has been practising martial arts for the past 18 years and is currently working towards his black belt in Krav Maga, having already achieved black belts in taekwondo and kick boxing.

He said: “Krav Maga is not about encouraging violence. We encourage the children to keep fit with a range of mixed martial arts techniques that also nurture life skills, eg. concentration skills, working towards goals, teamwork and building their self esteem.

“At Little Warriors we focus on simple fun exercises designed to develop suppleness, strength and encourage focus and concentration, even in the youngest child.”

Classes are held at Pontypridd Police Station on Sunday mornings from 11 am to 12.30pm at a cost of £2 per child. For further information email kravmagawales@aol.com, visit warriorkravmaga.co.uk or call 07946 176 009.
